It is very important to take backup of your site everyday or...


It is very important to take backup of your site everyday or every alternate day or at least once a week. If in case your site gets hacked or there are some viruses, you can replace the backup files and start your site again.


So how do you take a backup?


How to backup your site through CPanel


Log in to your cPanel. Scroll down to the section called “Files” and select “Backups”.


Now, here you will get two options – One for full backup and another for partial backup. You can do any one according to your requirement. In case you take partial backup, you must be acquainted with the types of files and folders that your site has. It is advisable to take full backups if your site is less than 500 MB.


I will show you to take both full and partial backups separately.

You have already arrived at the second page where you can see the option of generating a full website backup. Select the “Download or Generate Full Website Backup” and on the next page, you will get three options as a dropdown box to store your backup files.

· If you want to store the backup files on your web server, then choose the Home Directory.


· If you want to use your FTP/SCP to store your files, then select “Remote FTP Server” and fill up the necessary details of your FTP in the boxes and fields that open up below.


In all the cases, an email will be sent to the specified email address that you enter while taking a backup.


Next, you will see a file with the extension .tar.gz and along with the date, time and year it was downloaded. Now, in order to download a backup to your computer, click on the file name and save in the location you want to.

For creating partial backups, select the file that you want to backup. It may either be Home Directory, MySQL databases or Email Filters and Forwarders.


Click on the appropriate button that you want to download to store your files either in the web server or in the computer.
