Visit the beautiful Greek island of Heraklion
The modern city of Heraklion is the capital of Crete, the economic hub of the island and has a vibrant atmosphere to match. Ancient Byzantine churches show up against a modern cityscape in this town of differences, while its pavement cafes and elegant boutiques give Heraklion its cosmopolitan air. However, if you are prepared to lose yourself in the back streets, you'll get a peek at a slower, more common way of life.

The capital town of Crete Heraklion, has plenty of buildings and artifacts that are many thousands of years old, but the place has now been given a modern makeover in recent years that has caused it to be a wildly popular vacation destination. The exceptional museums and social festivals, amazing eating options, and easy access to several of the other Aegean Islands mean that there's something for everyone here.

Visit the grand architecture and vast beaches of Karteros, the strip of galleries and museums and art attractions alongside Xanthoudidou Street, or check out the stunning sunsets from the harbor.

You can use community city bus network to travel around Heraklion but you have to figure out the road to your desired destination. There are usually no routes or schedules posted at the bus stops.

Enjoy your time in the center of Heraklion. Go walking down the amazing roman streets and take a break at Liberty Square that is full of cafes, restaurants and a lot of shops and jewelry stores.

Its Archaeological Museum holds the remains of the 3000-year old Minoan culture, that expanded across the close by well-known palace of Knossos (of Minotaur fame), as well as Byzantine chapels and a well-preserved Venetian wall and castle from the 15th century.
